Sociocracy is a way of sharing power fairly in groups. This summer the Open Soil Atlas set about using this organising method to structure its own teams and to recruit and empower citizen scientists.
In this 2 hour interactive webinar, the team from Open Soil Atlas will introduce the principles of organising your project as a sociocracy, look at the benefits and challenges for their project and give participants a chance to participate in sociocracy together.
“distributed power, shared decision making and continuous learning can make a difference”
OSA will present:
Historical background information to allow you to place Sociocracy within various contexts
An introduction to sociocracy principles and tools
How the OSA implemented sociocracy for citizen science
Challenges of sociocratic organizations, lessons learnt, solutions that can make things easier
OSA's experience in the context of the ACTION accelerator programme
We will break into smaller groups to practice using sociocracy, learn by doing and from each other
About OSA:
Open Soil Atlas is an open-source co-learning centre for Berlin. Via an educational website, citizens can become experts on soil quality and fertility and are empowered to improve soil quality. Our workshops teach citizens how to make observations, test soil, interpret results and draw conclusions.
Open Soil Atlas members leading the webinar are: Anna Verones, Liz Eve, Fenja Freiin Grote
OSA was created as part of the Feld Food Forest:
feldfoodforest.org was founded in 2019 with a vision to establish a self-sustaining food forest that fosters a healthy community, healthy people and a healthy environment. We are currently working with the management of Tempelhofer feld to bring our food forest to life on the grasslands of Tempelhofer Feld, Berlin.
